90 Points

Saturday, August 29, 2009 - Eggplant parmigiana was the foil for this bottle. Crimson with slight bricking on the edges, this wine revealed a slight barnyard note on open which quickly gave way to copious levels of smoky toast, candied cherry, sweet menthol and leather. Slow and round attack yields to a mouthful of red stone fruit and savories on the mid-palate and finish. There is some tannin left to push the finish through the vapor trail of flavor. A well done effort by Rochioli! This can continue to evolve for another 5 years, plenty of fruit and tannin to ride it out. At 14.2%, this was ahead of it's time in pushing the ripeness level that has become the norm in Cali Pinot.
