90 Points

Friday, May 29, 2015 - This wine definitely fools me as a lowly bourgogne rouge - definitely drinks a class above others, nonetheless as expected from this legendary producer. It is popped and aired for a good half a day before drinking. Rusty garnet color with some bricking and medium legs. What strikes me most about the nose is the concentration and power (very Chambertin-like) - smoked cherries, anise, pepper, roasted coffee beans, bonito, rosemary and strawberries (faint) just leap out from the glass. On the palate, the juice has a a wholesome, delicate structure with good strength and balance between the tannins and the alcohol. Kirsch, leather, asian spice, and copious amounts of tobacco dominate the core. There is moderate acidity in the end to keep things light and fresh too. Finish is a bit short, however. Nonetheless, a great wine and the quality definitely makes it a bargain at this price point (not cheap though).
