Saturday, January 24, 2009 - Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2005 & 2006 Tasting (Hyatt, Century City): I find the nose to be somewhat closed as it does not show a lot of power or complexity but there are notes of currant and blackberry. The palate is another story with staggering complexity and structure. The flavors consist of the essence of stones, currant, cherry, and espresso. The soft black cherry note is particularly lovely on the long finish. Quite simply everything is there on the palate: the tannins, the acidity, the concentration, and the complexity. Sure it will take time for the tannins to mellow and the fruit to blossom but I have no doubt this is a legend in the making. 96+
