Thursday, March 13, 2008 - This wine has a long life ahead of it, but for me it is at its peak. Still surprisingly vibrant mousse. Floral nose with a dried citrus note - very rich with a certain dry austerity. Almonds maybe overlaid on mature chardonnay, with a sherry nutty note. If there is a vintage that produced wines that can rival the scale of the 1996's, 1988 is it for me. This wine may just be a touch better than the 1996 Blanc de Chardonnay, and that is saying a lot. This is a champagne that will easily cut through any youngish champagne you put on your table, and perhaps any wine you put on your table.
