90 Points

Saturday, June 5, 2010 - Splash decant for a little snifter before having with dinner later. Very dark wine in the glass with lovely bright ruby edges. Big cassis nose with quite a whack of toasty oak and polished cedar wood. Good concentration of fruit on the attack, which is surprisingly soft and round. Blossoms into quite a meaty mid palate then resolves to a grippy finish displaying plenty of ripe but not quite fully-integrated tannins. Decent length. Clearly some good quality fruit in here and it's approachable but will benfit from another couple of years, or at least some air time. Acidity high but nicely balanced. Will return to it in a few hours.

EDIT : After a couple of hours in decanter this really hasn't budged. The quality is there but you get the impression it's just woken up from a long refreshing nap and is still a bit grumpy. Perhaps a little more spice becoming evident and a certain edgy minerality. It can be enjoyed now but really it needs another couple of years to bring those tannins in. Now (if you have a few)-2020? 90+
