2004 Harlan Estate

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Saturday, January 30, 2016 - stood for 12 hours, decanted for 4.5, consumed over 3. very little sediment. in the decanter it smelled fine, nothing spectacular and a little worrying given its price. once ready to consume...

what to say about this wine? it's the closest thing to wine perfection I've ever had. billowing waves of concentrated, spicy fruit pack a massive punch but are shockingly delicate and balanced. nuance upon nuance with oozing black fruits, cinnamon red hots, deep spice, chocolate, coffee, and earth. it was what I wish Bordeaux was. we absolutely loved this, and over 3 hours it did not change much. it has a massive life ahead of it. even at its price, it is squarely worth it. just stunning stuff. if scoring, 98-100. and to think this is a "lesser" vintage of Harlan! I can't imagine one of the better vintages is like.
