Friday, February 12, 2016 - Among five Cabernets tasted at Mark Herold: 2013 Uproar, 2012 Brown Label, 2013 Brown Label, 2013 Stagecoach, and 2013 Coombsville. All were Coravin pours.

Notes of blackberry, black raspberry, black and red currant, and hints of purple berry and red licorice. A nice wine, but fairly straightforward and simple, with no notable spice or earth notes to add any further interest. Not astringent, and drank fine right out of the chute, but was a little coiled up (just because of its youth).

This wine is essentially made from the fruit out of the "C band" lots that didn't cut it for Herold's Brown or White Label wines. From a QPR standpoint ($70 range), I think there are others out there that are more complex and interesting to me. A finessed wine, but missing some mid-palate density and power that other comparable 2013 Napa Cabernets have been able to deliver.
