2000 Château Léoville Barton

90 Points

Thursday, August 21, 2014 - tasted blind. upon reveal I was shocked this didn't perform better.
lots and lots of funk. full and firm, but just not as much to enjoy and savor as I would have imagined. Decent structure. Maybe just closed right now, or needs more time - it was not decanted.

We had this a year or so back and it was actually opened the evening prior to serving for slow oxidation, and it was great. Its built like a cold war bomb shelter, and made to age 30-40 years. Hopefully your next one will show much better.

8/22/2014 1:15:00 PM - Thanks for the note, Jinks. I've been using 2018 as my drink starting date for the 2000 Leo B, and if anything that might be too soon. I'm starting to think that the top left bankers from 2000 might not really reach their drinking plateau until 2020.
