Monday, July 2, 2007 - Popped and poured. Was excited to try the Scharzhofberger after having the profound '05 Oberemmeler Hutte Kabinett from the same producer. The Scharzhofberger is pale gold in color. The nose, while subtle at first, slowly comes alive with tropical fruits and an ever so slight note of burnt petrol. The wine is somewhat of a bruiser on the palate with an overdose of sweetness that seems to develop a refreshing acidity with some air. There is a noticeable change in body after an hour or so of being opened. Initial expressiveness gives way to a more delicate mouthfeel, yet the sugar continues to dominate. Not as enchanting as the Oberemmeler Hutte but still a fine Kabinett.
