Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - Muture, medium bodied (for Hermitage) and in need of 3-4 hours of breathing even after double decanting. It seemed tired and old initially on the nose and the palate. After a few hours it blossomed and recovered its dark fruit and expansive nose of leather, bacon and herbs. Tasted along side a 1990 and 2000 La Chapelle and it held its own. The 1990 is clearly a richer denser and more long-lived wine in the end. The 2000 was nice but not better than the 1985 in my view. nice soft finish but not an exceptionally long one. Great with lamb.
