93 Points

Sunday, February 21, 2016 - Open 24 hours. My dad this bought a case and decided we should scout out a bottle. The nose lets you know the score: this is not open for business, but this is really classic and there is a lot waiting to come out. Aromas of black cherry, cherry, and blackberry along side earth, stones, stems, sauvage and meat. There are some dark florals in there as well. All of these are clearly cordoned off behind a lot of structure. With time some sweet red fruits and red spices start to peek out, but only peek. The nose has so much poise and clarity to it - it's really my style. The palate is very similar to the nose, and it's here we find out that the structure is a lot of acid, combined with very fine tannins. The palate is more red fruits and stones, with some spice, and is almost showing some sweetness. Again, this is very well focused with good flavor intensity, but a lightness and clarity. This almost feels more like a Barolo than a Red Burgundy to me. The finish carries on from the palate - serious acid carrying red fruits along with spices stones and minerals. Good length. I think this could be superb with 10 years. Nose - 4.5-5+/6, Palate - 5+/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-17+/20 (with 17.5/20) potential.
