Saturday, March 20, 2010 - 1948 Dinner: The label is illegible, but the capsule is embossed correctly, and the cork, emerging in three pieces, displays both the name and year.
Very pale brown, almost pink in the decanter. Musty, caramel and orange. Quite medicinal, almost chemical, volatile, and very acidic. Like the grin on the face of the Cheshire Cat after the cat has gone, the faded fruit gives a hint of what was there before.
Surprisingly, my guests consumed most of it, whether out of curiosity or politeness I could not say.
No question this is genuine - if anyone wanted to fake it they would have used a better wine.
