Friday, November 26, 2010 - From Uncle Mark's cellar. This bottle was perfectly mature, if anything on the downslope of a great life. Translucent ruby color with a bit of bricking starting on the edges. Intense nose of red currant, lead pencil shavings, tobacco and tea leaf. On the palate, the wine is growing lean and the loss of fruit from the last time I had this a few years ago is noticeable. However, it still carries firm structure beyond those bright red fruits and the finish still yields some gripping tannin and acid. I would drink up over the next year or two unless you really like how old wines taste. The bold fruit that made this wine so loveable over the last two decades has definitely gone to the angels.
