Monday, April 25, 2005 - CellarTracker's 1-year anniversary! (Seattle, WA, USA): I love this wine which is both mature and youthful at the same time. The nose is extremely expressive with leather, graphite, lead pencil, espresso, cocoa and a hint of mint. The palate was very tight at first, showing lots of clamping acidity and red fruit. However, with 45 minutes of air this opened beautifully and showed the gorgeous "rocks and red fruit" which I associate with Poyferré, but there is also a depth of more roasted, black fruit and dusty, powerful tannins. The graphite and minerality is amazing, and with time some cedar also joins the party. This bottle was more youthfully tannic than other bottles I have had, showing lots of structure and minerality and a bit less fruit. Still, this is a delicious wine which always delivers!
