Friday, June 14, 2013 - I've heard less-than-stellar things about this side of the Thanisch estate after it split, but this is just spectacular. It still looks rather youthful with a surprisingly pale colour for its age, and it's drinking superbly right now. The fruit's still very fresh and vibrant, framed by a spectrum of higher toned herbal and floral elements, and more savoury, low toned earthy and smoky notes. There's a sense of incredible polish and harmony on the palate right now with bracing acidity beneath and remarkable length, and the sense of freshness and structure gives the impression this still has plenty of time ahead of it, with more aromatic nuances keeping on unfolding with air. Just a stellar Auslese.
