1998 Penfolds Grange

Community Tasting Note

97 Points

Sunday, January 1, 2006 - Had on New Year's Eve, decanted 10 hours. Deep intense purple color, nose still closed but the following morning (saved 1 glass overnight) WOW! Huge blackberry, cherry, cassis. On the palate, medium-full bodied, with ripe acidity and perfectly integrated oak, tannin, fruit. Similar black cherry, and cassis with a finish that lasted for ever (1 minute) The tannins show through as a bit mouth drying on the finish. The has the legs to go the distance! If you are going to open I recommend a 24 hour decant.
