Friday, March 11, 2011 - Bought this one as part of a case at auction ~5 years ago. Nose has a soft ruby fragrant but distinctly Napa. On the pour it threw off a lot of sediment so thankfully I filtered into a decanter and let it sit for 30 minutes before pouring a glass. Color is a red tone with a hint of purple/brown -- looks like a "heavy" Bordeaux. Rich, dark fruits, soft tannins with a hint of tar on the first drink. Probably (hopefully?) could use a little more time. Will see how it evolves... 45 minutes later: Wine definitely softened in the glass with a little bit of time. Nicely paired with some food. Still showing a lot of good plum and blackcurrant flavors but not exactly vibrant. Questionable how much time these babies have left. For a problem child of the over-hyped 97 vintage, this one is still showing well.
