Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - Simply delicious. It only goes to prove that I'm a sucker for Sbragia's wines. It opens with a beautiful nose of smoke, cigar box, and restrained but tantalizing blackberry and currant. The nose later unwinds to show the slightest rose scent. With some air, the wine progresses from obvious mocha and up-front black fruit to ripe red fruit, including sweet raspberry. The palate is well-balanced, but still firm enough on the tannins, which help counteract the couch-potato oakiness. And the long, long finish confirms how well-crafted a wine this is. It's confident but never overbearing, and it's a classic in my book.
