Wednesday, December 9, 2009 - Birthday dinner with herb crusted rack of lamb. Decanted for 2 hours. Nose was pretty tight and did not offer up as much as I expected. This very hot vintage shows clearly in this Beaucastel. Overipe fruit and scorched earth notes. Some interesting complexities including ground coffee, pork sausage, and sage leaves. Heavy, chunky, dense, and rustic...lacking the polish I have experienced in other vintages. Very good but not great.
