92 Points

Monday, April 9, 2007 - Very shy on the nose, due no doubt to its extreme youth, but with aggressive swirling and aeration, traces of floral lemon peel and minerals emerged. Quite dry and very tight on the palate, slowly revealing the Schlossberg minerality and flint flavors, which expanded impressively on the back half and on the finish. With time, fresh peach flavors came to front, and the wine settled down to a very lace like and feminine (though quite powerful) texture and persona. Clearly, this is a wine of the soil vs. that of variatel character, and more of intellectual than hedonistic experience. That being said, this wine is begging for cellar time (I would give a good 5-7 years before cracking another) but the potential is clearly outstanding. Bodes very well for Weinbach and Alsace for the 05 vintage.
