Saturday, August 24, 2013 - Opened Friday morning, sampled and re-corked, served double-blind on Saturday night after 30 minutes in decanter. So glad I got to try this double-blind (one of two different entries on the night), as I didn't want to be influenced by the label/my wine. Deep garnet toward purple, no sign of age. Moments of brilliance on the nose and palate, but really nothing too memorable here, not now at least. Well lifted, but simple at times, this required quite a lot coaxing in the glass to get going. Yes, it did get better over the course of the 3 hour lamb dinner, but marginally at best. I had much higher hopes for this, but as it was, it finished #3 of 4 in the $50/bottle blind tier, slightly ahead of the 2004 Ch. St Jean Cinq Cepages - which is really not saying that much. 14,5% abv, held since release, cork like new, but met only my most minimal of expectations. Next bottle in 5-7 years, perhaps some tertiary development can salvage part of this investment.

8/25/2013 11:22:00 AM - Hey! Certainly this wine takes some time to offer what you may be looking for. I had some bottles of the 04 and it fullfilled my taste as I was looking for powerful, black fruited, mineral wine. Had some friends who have done verticals of Pintia and bewared me that the wines start (for their taste) faint/go downhill at age 10 (I assume the "power"), so maybe that can be a reference point for you. In any case, I think 04 is a really powerful, long term ageing vintage.

FWIW, early this year I had an Alion vertical (01-06), with all wines being more or less too young. However we had a fill in with a 1996 that was simply memorable, stunning, with a very earthy profile and tertiary flavors. Despite the fact it is not the same wine, but being the same house and same wine style, maybe that can be another reference for your Pintias.

    Cheers
    J.
