Friday, October 24, 2008 - Just signed up for a major Shea dinner in VA so thought I would pop this to celebrate. Notes from day 2, showing much better today and that is good because i was afraid it was in a shut down phase yesterday. Dark ruby color and medium bodied. Major funk on the nose that reminds me of fall and decomposing leaf layers but gives way to wild cherry vannilla notes that are quite nice with a little austere smell. On the palate blackberries, tart wild cherries, with some cedar, a few soft tannins, and a little acidity on the end. The tannins and acidity lead me to think this is another couple of years from being in its prime. Too bad I didn't have any better cellar protectors in the pinot department. Still a very solid effort, the fruit is a little subdued for me in it though.
