90 Points

Friday, January 9, 2015 - Twizzlers, VA, carob, clove, sweet/sour nose that is unique. Strawberry sweetness on the fleshy palate, faintly herbal, and also quite savory. Echoes of very old Ridge Zinfandel blends here, in fact, this is the same sort of out-of-the-box winemaking on display as those old Draper wines. Curious, tasty, and relatively little acetone comparatively.

Musar, I strongly encourage you to get your hands on any older Musars possible.....for example, the 1999 which is still reasonably available. Ah, I now see from your other tasting notes that you have already tried the 1999 Musar, but I would encourage you to persevere. Another in the same vein would be the 1998 Ch. Beaucastel. Cheers, Mike
