90 Points

Monday, March 29, 2010 - The last time I had this (July 2009) it was completely shut down. But tonight, this is open for business. It takes about two hours before the bouquet integrates but it's a very expressive one when it gets to it. I'm struck by the heady perfume (truly enchanting), the initial red berry aromas (raspberries) are complemented with black cherries, blackberries, spices, licorice and an underlying iron grip. Lovely nose. (When the wine was closed previously, it's that iron grip that overwhelmed everything else.) On palate, the wine has a certain silkiness with dark cherries, meat juice, extracted without being aggressive, the tannins are well restrained or at least integrated in the mineral assertiveness of the wine. The wine needs to fill in a bit more and there seems to be enough there to allow for that development. Punches well above its CdR status and plenty of time ahead.
