Wednesday, April 20, 2016 - A big wine, but one that sheds some of its prodigious fruit and oak with air. After ~3 hours of slow ox this is still modern, but shows much more BDX-like and moderate weight. Nose of dried cherry, licorice, melted dark chocolate and herbs. Loads of herb, earth and spice start to unfold on the palate. I'm pretty impressed/surprised that this improved so much with air. All that said, it still shows some heat and a bit of oaky vanilla bean on the back end. Started mid-80s and ends as a solid 90.
