Wednesday, January 28, 2009 - Nose of saddle leather, lard, flower and burning embers. Round and plump showing a good size swath of dark fruit but it's not syrupy or sweet. Like a very dark raspberry and crushed blackberry feel with some tar and menthol. Finishes still a bit tight on the sides so we'll see how air treats it but what finish that does show, it lingers for some good length. Closing out this TN with an update after 24 hours, a much softer wine tonight, with very little edge. If I had not known this wine had been opened overnight and someone poured it, I would guess a wine of some age, given its approachability. There is enough acidity and structure left to let it age a few more years but I would offer that it enters a prime window within the next six months and optimum late 2009 and then another couple years after.
