Thursday, September 24, 2015 - This old guy is presenting amazingly well, even just popping and pouring over a couple hours. Garnet color with no brown edges, suggesting little visible oxidation has occurred. Slow legs. Inviting, ample nose with aromas of ripe blackberries and strawberries (and some not so ripe fruit), with a touch of cooking spices, forest floor, sagebrush and gravel dust. Flavors of just ripe blackberries and strawberries, with a very slight note of oxidation. Strikes the palate as moderately sweet but retains some acidity. Finishes a bit bitter, with some lead pencil notes. After 10 years, tannins are still providing some traction and extending the finish. Moderate body with a smooth and velvety mouthfeel. This zin is quite delightful now.
