Tuesday, March 13, 2001 - Madeira @ Citizen Cake (San Francisco): Bartholomew Broadbent admits to being almost forced to market a Malmsey, since this is what sells in restaurants; but both he and his father feel that Tinta Negra Mole can make as good if not better wine at the lower price points. This seems to be the case here. Although this wine is a bit darker than the previous wine, it lacks the intensity and acidity that the "Fine Rich" bottling possessed. Mellow, smooth, and slightly nutty and chocolatey. Sweet, but not as sweet as one would expect from a Malmsey. A nice wine, but it seems to lack the refreshing acidity that makes Madeira great.
