Monday, May 21, 2012 - Bordeaux Region - Tasted at Chateau: Tasted at Chateau Leoville-Poyferre.
A half bottle was opened for us at the Chateau, so we were tasting with just a few moments of air. Swirled the glass for most of those moments but the wine was still very tight, very tannic. However, the nose was richly perfumed with dark berries, earth, oak, spices. It was brilliant. On the palate, once I got through the heavy tannins, the flavors were deeply concentrated with dark fruits, forest floor, cocoa, floral, minerals. The tannins were mouth filling. Long, lingering finish left the flavors in the mouth for almost a minute. This wine will need several more years (5+) before drinking again. (Doris did not like this wine. Too tannic)
