Saturday, July 2, 2016 - Brilliant and actually quite astonishing tonight. The 2006 Cuvée de Mon Aïeul is perfectly open for business. It exhibits a rich and dark massively elegant Grenache fruit which is accompanied by kirsch, lavender, fig jam and fresh herbal tones. A total crescendo of the hallmarks of this varietal. The palate is superbly integrated with a strikingly lovely balance. Tannins are gone, or perhaps just on holiday tonight. The overall impression is very positive, but it is time to drink up. No further evolution in sight here, is at least my personal guesstimate. This is a stunning Grenache based wine which has been on a sensational track of development but perhaps reached its peak? However, it might very well last another decade in the cellar...
