89 Points

Friday, July 19, 2013 - Medium bodied, firm and showing some greeness in the fruit, as one would expect, the wine is more interesting on the nose than the palate with its tobacco, cigar boax, cassis, blackberry and earthy aromatics. There is a slight gruffness to the tannins in the spicy cassis and cranberry finish.

12/23/2013 10:04:00 PM - I just had one tonight and ended up in exactly the same spot as you with an 89. It's not a generous or especially sexy Lalande, but it's still a nice, classic bottle of Bordeaux.

12/24/2013 7:48:00 AM - Thanks for the comment! The problem with these classic wines is, they are best young. Age brings out more of their faults. This was better young. Do you recall tasting it in its youth? Or at least years ago?

12/24/2013 7:57:00 AM - Perfect data point. I think 2004 and 2008 are both better vintages and the grapes used were more selective than what took place in 1994. I bought wine from both years, but they will also be more interesting at 10, than they will at 20.
