2005 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio

Community Tasting Note

87 Points

Sunday, September 1, 2013 - Nose of plum, cassis, Concord grape, & oak. I thought I was going to get hit over the head by a Parkerized, Jorge Ordonez fruit truncheon, but I was surprised by the raisin and bitter cocoa overtones. The wine tasted old and disintegrating/falling off, but it still had enough bold fruit to fool the average knucklehead. There is no terroir to speak of (and none was expected). The tannins are still strong, but the perceived EtOH level was nowhere near as high as the 15.5% on the label. Don't mistake my evaluation as part of the Parker backlash. I get in the mood for a wine like this on rare occasion (just like chards), but this one was disappointingly moribund. Drink yesterday.
