Sunday, July 5, 2015 - This wine is voluminous out of the gates on the nose and palate, lots of everything, with relatively burly tannins, almost but not quite unruly. With time, it settles down and presents a slightly more refined profile with good ingredients pretty well-mixed. Retains slight but wholesome rusticity throughout, and didn't tire over two nights of drinking. My feeling was that this bottle was just getting into secondary fruit and has considerable developmental potential ahead, which may give it more complexity, considering the vineyard origin. Much more pleasurable to drink now than I'd expect from a good 1er 2005. Drink cool and with food - the ample tannins would pair better with red meat dishes than is often the case with red Burgundy.
