Saturday, November 19, 2016 - This was my first bottle of a half case. Bottle had a high neck fill and a pristine cork. The wine is ruby in color, and was served in Burgundy stemware. The wine was aromatically generous with sous bois, red berries, cinnamon, and licorice notes. Unlike many 2005's this wine has finesse and delicate structure. The tannins are fully integrated with a light dustiness. The acidity is delicate but persistent, allowing the minerality to present when first tasted. This glides into the mid palate with raspberry, cranberry, and strawberry before licorice and minerality cruise into the finish. A lithe but sustained finish.

I enjoyed this wine from the outset, sensing a wine with fine balance and nuanced flavors and aromas. For me this was a classy Burgundy with the balance that is often missing from the cloying fruit bombs of new world wines.

I have been drinking 2005 Premier Cru wines on a more regular basis and I believe these wines are generally in their drinking window. Enjoy or hold as this should age gracefully.
