Friday, November 12, 2010 - I love Chapelot as it is a great vineyard that is relatively under-appreciated. My guess is that this is due to small production. It seems to me that Raveneau doesn't usually even show it to the critics when they come to taste. To my taste buds, this vineyard has relatively old vines and I believe it is often very close to grand cru in weight if not in refinement and longevity.

From a nice looking bottle, this wine sported a deep yellow color. The nose was rich and ripe with apple, lemon, honey, and a touch of marzipan. In the mouth, the flavors followed the nose and were classic Raveneau. Despite the fact the this is viewed as a fat vintage, the acidity was crisp, which helped provide a long finish. While not quite up with the very best Raveneau vintages, this is a very nice wine that was best after about 2 hours of decanter time. It should easily last 5-10 years and, depending on how you like them, it may even get better!
