Wednesday, November 26, 2014 - I drink a lot of Tuscan wine, and this is probably the best Brunello I've ever had. Singing from the get-go. Transparent magenta. Fruit profile starts out as black cherry, and with air reddens and sweetens to strawberry shortcake. Very well-integrated vanilla oak, licorice, bitter herbs. Palate is even more impressive than the nose--fantastic concentration in a soft, light package. Extremely long with no rough edges. Fantastic now, but with plenty of stuffing and structure to trade fruit for complexity profitably with further aging: bright acidity perfectly balances the fruit, and the tannin provides a nice texture with only a hint of drying on the palate. As good a $100 red as I've ever had. Whoever says Sangiovese isn't a noble grape needs to give one of these a try.
