Saturday, January 4, 2014 - Medium-light rosewood color. Light, bright nose of baking spice, with a touch (some would say a touch too much) oak. The palate is very woodsy, with cedar and fennel seed and a some faint, rather sedate fruit flavors. The mouthfeel is very smooth, with tannins that have completely receded. This is pleasant and interesting wine, and refutes those who say that Zinfandel cannot (or should not) be aged. Promising for those cellaring later vintages of Ridge Zin, as these clearly have staying power beyond a few years' time horizon. Drinking well now, no need to wait.
