Friday, December 26, 2014 - Popped and poured, followed approximately 2 hours. Garnet in the glass, with a slight brick. The nose on this was really strange. Heavy green notes were predominant; green tobacco, green chile, green beans, foliage; beyond that, ash, coriander, black currant, red bell pepper, crushed rock, soil and a touch of wood. On the palate, much of the nose carries through, with tastes of black currant, ash, pyrazine, and earth. Texturally, this feels a bit fat on entry, but the finish is significantly clipped with medium to medium plus acidity, and astringent tannin. Certainly interesting, but not much of a pleasant drink. Absolutely destroyed by the other 1996s.
