Thursday, September 15, 2011 - My antipathy towards grenache is confirmed once again, as this wine is either 100% or near enough to qualify. Let me stress that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the wine and it strikes me as being well made and even moderate in its 13.5% alcohol. What bothers me? I think I'm just genetically encoded not to like grenache and all its manifestations. The nose has a sour quality, blended with red fruits, spice, pepper and maybe some anise. None of this would be otherwise objectionable, but for me, it's like slamming into an olfactory wall. On the palate there are initial burst of nice red berry fruit, but then it becomes a jumble of competing impressions that don't taste integrated to me, almost like too much of the wine is revealed too quickly and then there's a harsh finish, but that probably doesn't make any sense. I do not like this, Sam I Am.
