Monday, August 31, 2009 - 3 Blind Cabs (Reno, NV): #1 Red rim, medium + extraction, moderate + depth of color. On the nose very savory with red > dark fruits that slightly exceed new oak barrique notes and earth. There is a scorched, roasted dark cherry aspect to the fruit that comes with a distinctively herbal note. On the palate the wine has high acidity that is somewhat coarse in nature… a classic Cabernet midpalate that is firm… the wine transitions smoothly into a moderate + to high tannin finish that is of moderate ripeness… tannins are mouthcoating and slightly coarse/unintegrated. Seems to be about 14 to 14.5% alcohol. Average balance, very nice length, good intensity, moderate + complexity. Wine has good finesse, has some textural issues (I think the roughness at the end may get better with time… the roughness at the beginning I don’t think will resolve). Wine is pretty classic for Chilean Cabernet and certainly has the potential to improve over the next 2 to 4 years.
