Thursday, October 13, 2005 - Casual Dinner with Great Wine with Friends (Chicago IL): Great black fruit aromas, modest spice, surprisingly fresh for its age. Black cherry and currant on palate, also fresh with good tannins and acidity for structural support. Very food friendly.

11/26/2018 2:45:00 PM - Sorry to see this description because to me means you had a bottle not stored well. I've had this wine several times, can be ethereal. The mineral flavors from the volcanic soil are unique. On the flip side maybe not your style. It's very different than Montelena, a winery I kept 6+ vintages and never - for me - has offered the aromatics or mineralization. Hope you get to try one again well kept. Mine were from the library but doubt they have many or sell anymore. Something that prompted this rare note is I never viewed this as a food friendly wine (not good but the singular taste experience made me want to drink it by itself, almost like I would an old '63 or '70 port). best wishes. I enjoy your notes.
