94 Points

Monday, June 27, 2005 - Since I just added to my stock of this beautiful wine, I gave myself the ok to check on this wine as I recently checked on the 00 Les Carmes Haut Brion and I wanted to have a look about 2 years after I had this wine upon release.

This wine is really evolving well and my re-purchase has been validated. Just a hint of age on the rim, medium depth of color as far as 2000 Bordeaux's are concerned. Captivating nose right out of bottle, with some garrigue, hints of sandelwood and incense, even patouli oil. A roasted character a la 90 is present in this wine, and it is reminiscent of the 90 at this stage of evolution ( I have had 2 cases of the 90). With aeration the Graves character of wet stones, graphite, minerals becomes more omnipresent. Very briary and chewy on the palate, with fine tannins nad bright red fruits coming thru, this was a treat to look at. This and the Les Carmes are both in the same league, solid efforts and this will really be singing with a few more years of age. Will give another bottle a look in 2-3 years, it isn't a crime to drink this now, but wait a while if you have less then a case.
