90 Points

Wednesday, October 26, 2011 - Two bottles in restaurant in Zurich. I am a big fan of these medium bodied, very reliable wines, particularly in shoulder vintages like 2001 , where LB is one of the greatest p/q bargains. Decanted for up to an hour. Neither bottle was overwhelming. Both had a missing piece mid palate and the finish was a bit thin, expressing in my view age not youth. Compared with the Branaire Ducru 2000, this wine appears to lack the stuffing to carry forward any more fruit. Once the tannins wore, the typical blackberry, blueberry and woody science emerged in a nice smooth cascade. But the ultimate verdict is that this 2000 will not be one of the greats.
