Sunday, December 7, 2003 - To celebrate the cellar move, I opened a bottle of this. Unfortunately, I did not plan ahead, so I just poured it directly into our glasses. Tight does not begin to describe this wine. It is closed for business with smoke and char and not much else. I saved half the bottle for the next night. After 28 hours open, the wine had opened a bit. Tonight the nose is still tight but the smoke has subsided to reveal candied blackberry and heavy vanilla. Best of all this wine exhibits a great mouthfeel with tons of extract, strong tannins, and tremendous structure. Despite being very close, it has a long finish. If only the fruit wasn't hiding.
