2000 Château Lynch-Bages

Saturday, August 24, 2013 - This is a massive Lynch. Still young and a little tight, but this puppy is headed for greatness. Reserved beginning for the nose, but eventually aromas of sweet plum, cassis, charcoal, flint, graphite, and menthol fill the air. The palate is more open and is truly loaded. Lovely fruit on the palate, plum, cassis, tobacco, wet clay, leather, mulch, and moist earth (though I had hoped for more pencil.) This is a bully of a wine, but air tamed the beast - to the point of elegance. I have to comment on the sweetness of the tannin - oxymoronic, maybe - but Lynch has sweet tannin, unlike any other. This was fabulous, true pleasure in every sip. Another 20 years and 2000 Lynch Bages will approach perfection. 97+ Pts

8/27/2013 5:58:00 AM - Monday, August 26, 2013 - had a bottle tonight that bore absolutely no relationship to the experience of the writer two days ago. Based on that description I decanted three hours ahead. Almost no aroma, taste was flat with any fruit or other flavors DOA, no discernible tannin, completely over and done. I have been anticipating drinking my first bottle since purchasing the case en primeur but it was hugely disappointing.

8/27/2013 3:43:00 PM - 1550, sorry about the bad showing of your bottle. Mine was a recent retail purchase so it may have been a little further down the evolutionary path - though the retailer has good storage. I have had a few 00 LBs that were off, but nothing like your description. I hope that the rest of your case brings a much better experience.
