Saturday, October 27, 2012 - Deep colour, staring to clear around the edges but still only hints of brick. Nose is a lot of blackcurrant and some spices. Palate is medium bodied with dark fruit and berry, some black pepper and maybe a hint of smoky licorice. Lingers pleasantly. Very enjoyable typical Rhone wine, will not suffer from a few more years of cellaring, but I doubt if it's worth the wait if you're not especially fond of mature wines. Guigal's prestige wines (Chateau d'Ampuis and up - certainly La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque) can be stored almost for ever and are guaranteed to provide an extraordinary experience. In the lower price ranges you still get a lot for your money, but the wines are less long-lived. In my opinion this should be drunk within the next three to five years for maximum enjoyment.
