The next night, it was much better, more in balance, more focused and fruit-centered, mostly cranberry and cherry with a bit of animal fur, but a lot less than the '98-'00 run of Donjon that were heavy on the animal and had more of a "brown" hue to the palate than the fruit-centered "red" of this '06. Slightly chalky tannins on the finish, and an ever-so-slight touch of heat. Did Cambie make this wine? It's not that drippy, quasi-Australian style of Grenache that I would expect from Cambie. Young still, but not big and fat and primary. A few more years in the cellar would do this wine well.
