Wednesday, July 22, 2009 - As expected, a real "lip smacker". Rich nose of dark fruit dominated by blackberry with some cassis, licorice, minerals and oak. Very rich and plush but with good structure and firm, drying tannins. Tremendous richness, concentration and complexity of flavors - everything is big, but also very nicely balanced. This wine is all about power right now, and while very drinkable, it is not yet completely seamless and the tannins are not yet fully resolved. I think it has plenty of fruit to stand up to the tannins, and believe improvement is likely with some additional bottle time.
