93 Points

Thursday, May 17, 2007 - Opened and decanted for dinner at Social Hollywood. Aromas of dried cherries and cranberries, cocoa powder, black truffles, and just hint of cedar. On the palate, this wine starts off very silky with dark cherry, loamy earth, and herbs. The judicious use of oak has been fully integrated. With food -- I had the Filet Mignon with Lobster Bordelaise -- the acidity kicks in and helps to cut through the richness of the dish. Although the finish was initially on the short side, it did actually seem to become more protracted with time in the glass. By the end of the meal, about 2+ hours later, the wine was still very vibrant and textured and was showing absolutely no sign of fading. Although it is drinking very well right now, and has shed nearly all of its baby fat, it is still IMO very much a youngster. I will probably wait another year before even thinking about opening another one. 92-93 points. P.S. LB was much less impressed with this wine, but then again, she's a tough cookie when it comes to cab-based wines. I guess that's what happens when you are weaned on Shafer HSS.
