Saturday, October 11, 2008 - I can't wildly excited about this though, unlike some, I rather like the finishing acidity in this wine. The Beau CDP could use some of it. The wine has all of the predictable rhone/cdp features on the nose: bramble, guarrigue, some slightly roasted notes, leather and a little brett (though thankfully, no excessive), all rounding into a plummy candied dark fruit whole. On the palate, somewhat clipped middle weight flavors of dried fig and plum merging very quickly into a streak of fairly broad acidity. What I don't like is the insistent end note of green bitterness (overextraction?). That, to me, is why this won't evolve much from beyond where it is, or rather, will become disagreeable beyond the next three or four years. I would add, that while I don't expect Rayas, for the price I do expect a little bit more length than standart CDR. This has the complexity, but not the length. As for where it is going, I have enough to find out, but I'm going to be breaking mine out for the unsuspecting guests who don't know any better.
